Jason Hurdlow

Twitter: jhurdlow

Jason began his software development career in the early nineties writing computer graphics software in C and C++; software used for television and film effects. Eventually he did a stint writing 3D games as a sub-contractor to Zipper Interactive on the mostly unheard-of arcade flight-sim "Top Gun: Hornet's Nest". With TG:HN shipped and tired of sleeping in a bean-bag next to his desk (4hrs sleep a day if lucky) he returned to the CG industry, even doing some tracking shots for the movie "Hellboy" along the way. He worked for a few months for Luxology on what would become Modo, then returned to his own business. When sales of his best-of-class Lightwave plugin "VertiBevel" nose-dived with the economy, and his wife's employer closed up shop, he manned up and got a job in higher-education at Washington State University so his wife could stay home with their (now 3) beautiful children. After being practically hazed by having to write a web-app in VBScript/ASP, he stepped into the world of managed code, C#, .NET, Silverlight and all things Microsoft, and he now writes LOB apps in Silverlight and ASP.NET MVC. He enjoys leading the university's application developers group, and is a lead organizer for the upcoming Palouse Code Camp (Pullman, WA, Sept. 2010). In his spare time he tinkers with mobile development platforms (even though he doesn't even own a cell-phone), continues development of his beloved VertiBevel, and plays softball every chance he gets. Jason lives in Moscow, ID with his patient wife Heidi, 3 lovely children and a couple neighborhood cats that just decided to move in.

I began my corporate recruiting career at ADP Dealer Services, moved on to Nike, did an onsite gig at Merix and finished at RadiSys. Three years ago I joined Momentum Management Resources as a headhunter. We are a boutique firm focusing on the hardware and software development vertical. Currently I am on a project at APCON assisting with their hiring ramp. I am very passionate about educating people around the whole employment cycle. I want them to be empowered to understand the process, how it works and how to best present themselves so they get the opportunity to interview and get jobs. Mine will be a working session where we will work through a step by step process to improve your resume and you will leave with an updated resume in hand. I will also talk a little bit about how to manage the hiring process from your end and how to use headhunters and job boards effectively. I am asking people to come with a hard copy of their resume at a minimum- even better if you also have your laptop with a soft copy to work with as we go.
